GTA 6 Pricing Hinted by Take-Two CEO: Value Over Cost

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has once again offered insights into the potential pricing of the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6. Speaking at the iicon conference recently, as reported by IGN, Zelnick emphasized the importance of value in pricing. "Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way, way, way less than the value delivery," Zelnick stated. He added, "How you feel about something you buy is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for. Consumers need to feel like the thing itself is amazing and the price they were charged was fair for what they got."

Pricing Trends and Speculation

While Zelnick did not reveal the exact price of GTA 6, he noted that game prices have decreased relative to inflation over the past couple of years. For reference, major game releases have been priced in the $60–$70 range for more than a decade. Last month, during an interview with The Game Business, Zelnick suggested that GTA 6 could be priced between $70 and $80. This aligns with industry trends, as some publishers have already moved to $70 price points for flagship titles.

Zelnick's Philosophy on Pricing

At the iicon conference, Zelnick elaborated on his pricing philosophy: "If you look at it through that lens, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But that isn't the lens through which we look. Instead, we look at… how do we deliver something amazing, and how do we make sure that what people pay for it feels very reasonable." He further stated, "What we think about is making the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth, in history – and it's a pretty daunting challenge. If we do that, and if we're of service to our customers, then the upside will take care of itself."

L.A. Noire Sequel Hints

During the conference, Zelnick also dropped hints regarding a potential sequel to L.A. Noire. "Broadly, we're looking at doing something in the future with all of our intellectual property," he said, adding, "There's nothing to announce on L.A. Noire specifically, and if there were, it would be Rockstar announcing it, not me. But in any case, with regard to our legacy IP, the teams are always looking at what we have and we're always thinking about it. The question is, at any given time, do we have a team that's passionate about working on that?"

These comments have sparked renewed interest among fans, though no official announcements have been made regarding a sequel to the 2011 detective thriller.
