Indore: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore is set to introduce a new set of electives focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning starting from the 2026-27 academic session. This move comes as management institutes across the country revamp their curricula to meet the rising demand for AI-ready professionals in various industries.
New Electives to Be Offered
The proposed courses, likely to begin from the new academic session starting in July, include 'Communicating with/about AI: Ethics, Accountability and the (Human) Manager', 'Machine Learning with Business Applications', and 'Regression Analysis'. These electives will be integrated into the institute's postgraduate management programmes.
Prof Himanshu Rai, Director of IIM Indore, stated, "Our objective at IIM Indore is to ensure that management education remains aligned with the rapidly evolving business landscape shaped by artificial intelligence, analytics and digital transformation." He further emphasized, "The emphasis is not only on understanding technology but also on applying it responsibly in areas such as strategy, marketing, HR, operations and decision-making."
Expansion of AI Curriculum
The institute has already expanded its AI and analytics curriculum in its Post Graduate Programme (PGP) over the past year. Existing electives include 'Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Business', 'Introduction to Generative AI and NLP', 'Gen AI Applications in Marketing and Business', and 'Enterprise AI Transformation: Strategy, Consulting and Leadership'. This expansion reflects the growing demand for AI courses among students.
IIM Indore has also observed a surge in interest from working professionals and industry leaders, prompting the launch of AI-led executive education programmes. Currently, seven executive programmes related to artificial intelligence, business analytics, digital transformation, and AI-driven leadership development are being conducted.
Growing Enrolment in Executive Programmes
According to institute officials, these executive programmes currently have 766 active or certified participant enrolments. This number underscores the increasing industry focus on AI upskilling and reskilling initiatives. The institute aims to continue adapting its offerings to prepare future managers for a technology-driven business environment.
