Patna: In a significant move to enhance technical education, all 47 government polytechnics in Bihar, including women's polytechnics, will soon establish Centres of Excellence (CoEs) with assistance from the Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT-P). This initiative, spearheaded by the state's Department of Science and Technology, aims to modernize technical education across the state.
Phase Two of Saat Nischay Programme
Under the second phase of the 'Saat Nischay' programme, work is underway to create 33 CoEs in various polytechnics. These centres will specialize in advanced subjects such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, 3D Printing, Drone Technology, and Electric Vehicles. The government plans to provide instructors with structured training and equip the centres with modern hardware and software capabilities to significantly improve hands-on learning.
Mission and Objectives
Department Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh stated, "The mission of the CoE is to enable the institution as an innovation hub in emerging technology. It will go a long way in helping students and entrepreneurs by providing ideas, research, and development facilities to build an Atma Nirbhar Bharat." Additional benefits include access to advanced lab infrastructure, specialized course curricula in emerging technologies, and enhanced placement opportunities across core industries.
Singh also noted that keeping in view the needs of industries, diploma courses in 26 new disciplines are being offered in different polytechnics across the state. The creation of 33 CoEs is progressing as part of the second phase of the 'Saat Nischay' programme.
Placement Success
Placement scenarios have improved considerably, highlighting the success of these programmes. For instance, a major pooled placement drive conducted successfully with Maruti Suzuki India Limited resulted in job offers for 34 polytechnic students from districts such as Patna, Saran, and Gaya.
