Coimbatore: A tragic incident occurred on Saturday when a 24-year-old IT professional was electrocuted after coming into contact with a roadside electric pole near Edayarpalayam Junction on Thadagam Road. The victim was returning from a relative's funeral amid heavy rain.
Victim Identified
The Kavundampalayam police have identified the deceased as K Keerthik, 24, a resident of Vivekanandar Street at Neelikonampalayam near Singanallur in the city. He was employed at a private IT firm in Bengaluru.
Sequence of Events
According to a police officer, Keerthik had traveled to Kanuvai to attend a funeral ceremony of a relative. After the funeral, he reached Edayarpalayam Junction on Vadavalli Road and attempted to board a bus. At that time, it was raining heavily in the city. While trying to cross the road, Keerthik touched a nearby electric pole for support. Due to a suspected technical fault or leakage worsened by the rain, he suffered a massive electric shock and was thrown several feet away.
Passers-by rushed to his aid and immediately arranged for an ambulance to take him to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. However, doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.
Investigation Underway
The Kavundampalayam police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter. Authorities are examining the electric pole to determine the cause of the fault and whether negligence was involved.
