Marvel Rivals developer NetEase has publicly named and banned nearly 500 players as part of a targeted purge against cheating detected after a recent game update. In a blog post detailing its anti-cheat efforts, NetEase revealed partial usernames, user IDs, and player ranks of those penalized, spanning multiple competitive tiers from Bronze to Celestial.
Targeted Purge After Update
NetEase stated that telemetry detected a faction of rogue players promoting and deploying unauthorized third-party enhancements following the weekend update. The company described this as a blatant disruption of fair play, prompting an immediate, targeted purge by security teams.
Warning Against Third-Party Tools
Marvel Rivals uses an automated penalty system monitored by the security team, which issues bans. Players who believe they were unfairly penalized can submit appeals through official customer support channels. NetEase urged players not to download, purchase, distribute, or use any cheats, scripts, game modifiers, or illicit third-party tools. The company also addressed online rumors claiming anti-cheat protections could be bypassed via launch parameters, calling those claims completely false.
Cheaters risk permanent account bans, with repeat offenders facing device or IP bans that restrict future access entirely.
Game Context
Marvel Rivals, a hero shooter featuring Marvel characters, launched to a large multiplayer audience. While maintaining a strong player base, competition has intensified, including renewed interest in Blizzard's Overwatch 2. NetEase may also see increased attention from upcoming Marvel releases, such as Avengers: Doomsday later this year.
