Noida to Launch 13 EV Battery-Swapping Stations with HPCL

In a significant step toward accelerating electric mobility and curbing vehicular pollution, the Noida Authority has announced the rollout of 13 electric vehicle battery-swapping stations across the city. This initiative is being undertaken in partnership with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), which will bear the entire cost of setting up and operating the network.

Phase 1 Targets Two- and Three-Wheelers

The initial phase of the project will focus on two- and three-wheelers, with the stations expected to become operational within a month. A subsequent phase will introduce similar facilities for four-wheelers. The battery-swapping technology allows users to exchange a depleted battery for a fully charged one in just a few minutes, drastically reducing downtime compared to conventional charging methods.

Revenue-Sharing Model and Cost Benefits

SP Singh, general manager of the Noida Authority, explained that the batteries provided at these stations will be capable of powering vehicles for up to 200 kilometers on a full charge. The estimated operational cost for users will be around Rs 1 per kilometer. Under the revenue-sharing arrangement, the Noida Authority will earn Rs 1 per kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed at these facilities.

  • Ganga Shopping Complex in Sector 29
  • Spice Mall in Sector 25A
  • ESIC Hospital in Sector 24
  • Film City in Sector 16A
  • Sector 63 near Electronic City Metro Station and Haldiram

Current EV Penetration in Noida

Noida currently has over 12 lakh registered vehicles, but electric vehicles account for only around 52,747, which is nearly 4% of the total fleet. The new battery-swapping stations are expected to make EV adoption more practical for daily users, thereby increasing the share of electric vehicles in the city.

Broader Push for Sustainability

Last week, the Noida Authority also announced the launch of 50 electric buses in collaboration with UPSRTC, starting next month. These initiatives underscore the Authority's broader commitment to positioning Noida as a sustainable and smart urban centre.
