Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Central Sanskrit University (CSU) for launching a B.Tech programme in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (Sanskrit) during the 135th episode of his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday. The programme aims to integrate cutting-edge technology with India's traditional knowledge systems.
In his address, PM Modi stated, "Friends, another commendable effort is being made towards preparing the youth for new technology while staying connected to our roots. The Central Sanskrit University in Delhi is going to start a B.Tech. programme in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. This is a significant step towards linking modern technology with India's traditional knowledge."
Programme Objectives and Features
The innovative programme, launched under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi, focuses on preparing students in emerging technologies while promoting Sanskrit, the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), and the digitisation of ancient texts and manuscripts. Students will gain expertise in AI and data science with a special emphasis on Sanskrit language processing.
PM Modi further added that this programme would play a crucial role in developing new AI tools for Indian languages, digitising ancient texts and manuscripts, and preserving as well as promoting the Indian Knowledge System (IKS).
University Leadership Responds
Expressing gratitude for the Prime Minister's appreciation, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi said, "The mention and commendation of Central Sanskrit University's B.Tech. This programme is an innovative effort to harmonise the Indian Knowledge System, Sanskrit, and modern science. The university is committed to creating new possibilities in the fields of artificial intelligence, Indian languages, and ancient sciences. The Prime Minister's encouragement brings us new energy and a deep sense of responsibility."
Impact on Education and Technology
The B.Tech programme at Central Sanskrit University is seen as a pioneering effort to bridge modern technical education with India's rich intellectual heritage. It is expected to produce graduates who can contribute to the digitisation of ancient manuscripts, develop AI tools for Sanskrit and other Indian languages, and advance research in the Indian Knowledge System.
The initiative aligns with the government's Digital India campaign and efforts to revive traditional knowledge through modern technology. By combining Sanskrit studies with AI and data science, the programme offers a unique interdisciplinary approach that could set a precedent for other institutions.
