The collaboration between Jr NTR and ‘KGF’ and ‘Salaar’ director Prashanth Neel in the upcoming film ‘Dragon’ has been one of the most highly anticipated projects, with fans eagerly awaiting its release. The dark thematic style that Neel is renowned for in his grand cinematic ventures, coupled with the significant weight loss undertaken by the actor, has been a major talking point surrounding the project. Now, the filmmaker has made a startling claim: the film is “darker than anything” he has previously written.
Prashanth Neel Praises Jr NTR for Accepting the Role of Luger
According to a report by Pinkvilla Team Dragon, Prashanth Neel stated that Jr NTR made a remarkably bold decision by agreeing to portray the character of Luger in the film. The director described the character as darker and more intense than any he has conceptualized before. “For a star of his stature to accept such a risky role is incredibly brave,” Neel remarked.
Three Years to Fully Commit to the Project
Neel also elaborated on the extensive preparation time required for the project. It took nearly three years for the team to fully comprehend the emotional motivations driving the character’s actions. Once everything finally aligned, Jr NTR gave his assent to take on the challenging role, fully aware that it might surprise his fan base. “It took us almost three years to arrive at the emotional reasoning behind why this character does what he does. When everything finally fell into place, he simply said, ‘Let’s do it,’ despite knowing how challenging and unexpected it would be for his audience,” Neel added. The film reportedly centers on Luger, an operative linked to a substance-smuggling syndicate that faces a major crackdown by authorities.
Cast of ‘Dragon’
Alongside Jr NTR, the film features an ensemble cast including Rukmini Vasanth, Anil Kapoor, Biju Menon, Ashutosh Rana, and Sidhant Gupta in pivotal roles. Earlier reports indicated that Tovino Thomas was slated to play a key role, but he reportedly withdrew due to scheduling conflicts and the prolonged shooting schedule. Subsequently, rumors emerged that Shahid Kapoor was being considered for the main antagonist role, though the makers have not officially confirmed these reports. The movie is currently scheduled for release on June 11, 2026.
