Sebastian Stan's Marvel superhero days are firmly behind him. The actor, widely recognized for his portrayal of the Winter Soldier, also known as Bucky Barnes, is set to make a significant crossover into the DC Universe. He will take on the iconic role of Batman villain Two-Face in the highly anticipated sequel 'The Batman: Part II', which stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.
Stan's Transition from Marvel to DC
The actor, who recently garnered attention at the Cannes Film Festival for his performance in the film 'Fjord', has teased his transformation into Harvey Dent. Dent is Gotham's idealistic district attorney who eventually succumbs to madness and becomes the villainous Two-Face. While promoting his award-winning film, which secured the prestigious Palme d'Or at Cannes, Stan hinted that he will play "many roles in this one."
Having already established himself within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this role marks Stan's first major foray into DC Universe territory. Sharing his thoughts on taking on the character and collaborating with hair and makeup teams to craft the character's new appearance, he expressed, "I'm excited, I'm nervous, and trying to keep surprising myself."
Plot Details and Character Evolution
According to reports, the film will likely depict Dent's evolution from the charming District Attorney to the infamous Two-Face. This transformation occurs after underworld figure Sal "Boss" Maroni throws acid in his face, permanently disfiguring one side of his visage. Sources suggest that 'The Batman: Part II' will delve deeper into Harvey Dent's backstory and also shed light on Bruce Wayne's journey, in addition to his role as Batman.
Former 'Game of Thrones' star Charles Dance is reportedly set to portray Dent's father, Christopher, while Scarlett Johansson is rumored to play his wife, Gilda.
Production and Release Details
The sequel sees Matt Reeves returning as director and co-writer, following the critical and commercial success of 2022's 'The Batman'. Recent social media posts from the production have already generated buzz among fans, with photos and videos showing Pattinson's stunt double filming scenes alongside Gotham City Police Department vehicles inside Liverpool's Birkenhead Tunnel. The actor has also been spotted in London as production prepares to commence.
Principal photography on the film is expected to begin next month, with filming scheduled to take place in both Liverpool and Glasgow, Scotland. 'The Batman: Part II' is currently slated to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
