Surat Textile Sector Goes Green for Global Markets

Surat: As global markets increasingly demand cleaner production, Surat’s textile sector sharpened its focus on sustainability at a high-level workshop that brought together industry leaders, experts and policymakers to push energy efficiency, water conservation and green technologies across the value chain.

Workshop on Sustainable Practices

A textile sector awareness workshop titled “Sustainable Practices and Green Technologies for the Textile Sector” was held in the city to promote sustainable growth and environmentally responsible manufacturing. TERI and Energiva Ventures organised the event with support from the Southern Gujarat Textile Processors Association (SGTPA) and MANTRA.

Key Participants

The workshop saw participation from textile entrepreneurs, industry experts, technology providers and representatives from multiple organisations. Among those present were Jitendra Vakhariya, Rajnikant Bachkaniwala and District Industries Centre (DIC) general manager J V Dave. Girish Shetty and Bansi Shukla represented TERI.

Focus on Green Technologies

Speakers stressed the need to adopt green technologies, improve energy efficiency and conserve water to ensure long-term sustainability of textile operations. They highlighted that sustainable manufacturing practices are no longer optional but critical for competitiveness in global markets. Experts shared detailed information on central schemes, incentive policies and support programmes offered by the textile ministry. Presentations covered energy-efficient technologies, solar power solutions, modern dyeing processes and other technical innovations aimed at reducing environmental impact.

Resource Circularity and Market Opportunities

Discussions also focused on resource circularity, pollution prevention, carbon footprint reduction strategies and emerging global market opportunities for sustainable textile products.

The workshop concluded with a networking dinner, allowing participants to exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations within the evolving green textile ecosystem.
