The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) is set to prioritize clean toilets and hygienic food facilities across all its properties, alongside the launch of a flagship tourism project. These initiatives were outlined during a high-level review meeting chaired by Tourism Minister S Rajesh Kumar in Chennai.
Roadmap to Transform Tamil Nadu Tourism
The meeting discussed a comprehensive roadmap to position Tamil Nadu as one of Southeast Asia's leading tourism destinations over the next five years. The minister emphasized the need for modern infrastructure, technology-driven experiences, and enhanced tourist facilities.
Focus on Cleanliness and Culinary Experience
According to an official, the minister instructed that visitors should receive a good culinary experience at all TTDC properties. There are 50 TTDC-run properties, of which 23 are operated by franchisees. The minister was particularly insistent on maintaining high standards of cleanliness across all facilities.
Integration of Modern Technologies
The review meeting also covered the integration of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, into tourism administration and visitor services. This aims to create a more seamless and immersive travel experience. Workforce training and capacity building for tourism personnel were also part of the deliberations.
Flagship Project and Infrastructure Upgrades
The minister instructed officials to continue upgrading tourist destinations across Tamil Nadu and work towards making the state one of the best tourism hubs in India with world-class facilities. He specifically wanted one major project idea to be implemented. The meeting was attended by senior officials including Principal Secretary Dr C Swarna, Tourism Commissioner and TTDC Managing Director M S Shanmugam, and TTDC General Manager C Lakshmi Priya.
