UIDAI Retires mAadhaar, Launches New Aadhaar App

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced the retirement of the old mAadhaar app, urging all users to uninstall it and switch to the new, more secure and feature-rich Aadhaar app. The transition aims to enhance user experience and data protection.

Key Features of the New Aadhaar App

The updated Aadhaar app introduces several new features, including family ID linking, selective information sharing, offline QR verification, and enhanced security measures. Users can now link multiple family members under a single family ID, making it easier to manage Aadhaar-related tasks.

Security Enhancements

The new app offers masked Aadhaar ID sharing, which allows users to share only the last four digits of their Aadhaar number when needed. It also includes biometric lock and unlock features, giving users greater control over their biometric data. Additionally, the app is fully compliant with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act), ensuring robust data privacy.

Multi-Profile Support

One of the standout features is the ability to add up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, provided they are linked to the same registered mobile number. This is particularly useful for families who want to manage multiple Aadhaar accounts from one phone.

Simplified Updates and Offline Verification

The app allows hassle-free updates to phone numbers and addresses directly through the interface. It also supports offline verification via QR codes, enabling users to verify their Aadhaar details without an internet connection.

Retirement of mAadhaar App

UIDAI has officially retired the old mAadhaar app, which was launched in November 2025. Users are strongly advised to uninstall the old app and download the new Aadhaar app from official app stores to continue accessing Aadhaar services securely.
