The Andhra Pradesh Police are set to launch a statewide crackdown against organised and repeat cyber offenders operating in online spaces. The directive was issued by the state's Director General of Police, Harish Kumar Gupta, who instructed senior police officials across all districts to initiate an intensive and intelligence-driven operation targeting derogatory and targeted social media activities.
Intelligence-Led Operation
This crackdown is not a routine drive but a carefully planned, intelligence-led initiative. The DGP emphasised the need for proactive monitoring of social media platforms to identify individuals and groups that systematically engage in cyber offences. The operation will cover the entire state of Andhra Pradesh, with special cyber crime cells in each district coordinating with local police stations. The police will leverage advanced cyber forensic tools and collaborate with social media platforms to track down offenders. Derogatory posts, targeted harassment, and coordinated disinformation campaigns will be prioritised.
Senior officers have been directed to ensure that all legal procedures are followed meticulously, including the collection of digital evidence and adherence to the Information Technology Act. The DGP also stressed the importance of public awareness and urged citizens to report suspicious online activities through dedicated helplines.
