How the Fraud Unfolded
The complainant, identified as 32-year-old Akbar Khan, a resident of Bairagarh Chichli who is engaged in farming, received the fraudulent link on his phone. As soon as he clicked on it, the money was swiftly debited from his bank account without his authorization. This type of attack, known as phishing, exploits trust to steal sensitive financial information.
After noticing the unauthorised transaction, Khan immediately contacted his bank to report the issue. However, bank officials denied any direct transaction from their end, even though the funds had already been transferred to another account. This response left the farmer in a precarious situation, realizing he had been cheated through sophisticated digital means.
Police Action and Investigation
Realising the severity of the fraud, Akbar Khan took prompt action by lodging a complaint on the cyber-crime helpline. Following this, he filed an e-FIR, which has been registered by the police. The case is now under investigation, with authorities working to trace the perpetrators and recover the stolen funds.
