Cubbon Park metro station in Bengaluru was temporarily shut down on Tuesday after a power failure disrupted services on the Purple Line. The incident occurred during the morning peak hours, causing significant delays for commuters traveling between Baiyappanahalli and Kengeri.
Power Failure Causes Service Disruption
The power outage hit the station around 9:30 am, leading to the suspension of train operations on the affected stretch. Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials confirmed that the failure was due to a technical glitch in the power supply system. Emergency backup systems were activated, but services remained affected for nearly an hour.
Commuters Face Inconvenience
Passengers were stranded at various stations along the Purple Line, with many expressing frustration over the lack of timely updates. "We were not informed about the disruption until we reached the station," said a regular commuter. BMRCL deployed buses to assist stranded passengers, but the alternative arrangement was insufficient to handle the rush.
Restoration of Services
Technical teams worked to restore power, and normal operations resumed by 10:30 am. BMRCL issued an apology for the inconvenience and assured that an investigation into the cause of the failure would be conducted. "We regret the disruption and will take measures to prevent such incidents in the future," a BMRCL spokesperson stated.
Previous Incidents on Purple Line
This is not the first time the Purple Line has faced technical issues. In recent months, similar power failures and signal problems have caused delays, raising concerns about the reliability of the metro system. Commuters have urged BMRCL to upgrade infrastructure and improve maintenance protocols.
The Purple Line is one of Bengaluru's busiest metro corridors, connecting key areas such as Majestic, Cubbon Park, and Indiranagar. The disruption highlights the need for robust contingency plans to minimize inconvenience to the daily users of the metro.
