Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested two cyber fraudsters from Darjeeling, West Bengal, for allegedly duping a city-based businessman of Rs 5.14 crore through a fake online trading and investment platform.
Ongoing Investigation
In February, investigators had earlier arrested two accused from Gujarat and one from Assam in connection with the case. A Crime Branch officer stated, "As part of our ongoing probe, we have arrested Kiran Gurung (55) and Randheer Kumar Ray (46), both residents of Darjeeling. Around Rs 49.1 lakh of the defrauded amount was transferred to their accounts."
Network of Fraud
The officer revealed that the duo was part of a larger network running fraudulent investment schemes and channeling cheated money through multiple bank accounts. "Further investigation is underway to identify other associates, trace the remaining amount, and expose the entire racket," the police officer added.
Victim's Complaint
According to police, the victim lodged a complaint on April 9, 2025, alleging that unknown scammers had contacted him via social media in March 2024, promising high returns on investments. "The victim transferred money in 54 separate transactions between March and April 2024, only to realize later that he had been duped," the officer said.
