Gaya Raid: Narcotic Medicines Seized, One Arrested

In a coordinated operation on Monday morning, officials from the district drugs control department and Kotwali police conducted a raid in Piparpanti mohalla under the Kotwali police station area. They seized a substantial quantity of narcotic and spurious medicines, along with raw materials, machines, and packaging equipment from a house.

Arrest and Seizure

The tenant, identified as Vikas Kumar, was arrested during the raid for allegedly operating the illegal setup from the first floor of the building. The property is owned by the late Ranjit Singh alias Ran Singh, a former MP from Chatra. Interestingly, offices of the animal husbandry and fisheries departments function on the ground floor of the same building.

Police recovered large quantities of suspicious medicines, including narcotic drugs, cough syrups, and sleeping pills. The exact value of the seized items is being assessed by officials.

Investigation Details

Assistant drug controller Vijay Kumar stated, "Preliminary interrogation of the accused revealed that the medicines were allegedly brought from Deoghar and stored at the premises before being supplied to other places." He added that officials are probing possible links to other districts and states.

"It is suspected that a racket was involved in the supply of narcotic medicines to multiple locations," Vijay said, confirming that more suspects have been identified during the investigation.

Broader Implications

The raid highlights the ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade of narcotic substances in the region. Authorities are now focusing on dismantling the entire supply chain, which may extend beyond Gaya. Further arrests and seizures are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
