Gurgaon Man Arrested for Fake Facebook Cattle Scam

A man has been arrested in Gurgaon for allegedly defrauding people through a fraudulent Facebook page that advertised cows and buffaloes for sale, collecting money under the guise of registration and other formalities.

Arrest and Recovery

The accused, identified as Sajid, a resident of Bharatpur, Rajasthan, was taken into custody by the Cyber Crime South police team from U-Block, DLF Phase-3. Two mobile phones believed to have been used in the scam were recovered from his possession.

Modus Operandi

According to police, Sajid, along with an accomplice, operated a fake Facebook page named “Chaudhry Dairy Farm” to target individuals looking to purchase cattle online. “When buyers showed interest, the accused demanded payments on the pretext of completing documentation and transport-related procedures, including registration, GPS tracking, and obtaining no-objection certificates from different states,” an officer stated.

Investigations revealed that the accused allegedly cheated a victim of approximately Rs 90,000 after promising to sell a cow. Police further noted that Sajid kept 30% of the fraud amount as commission and transferred the remaining funds to his associate.

Legal Proceedings

A case has been registered at Cyber Police Station South under sections 318(4) (cheating), 319 (impersonation), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The recovered mobile phones are being examined to identify other victims, associates, and bank accounts linked to the alleged fraud. Police added that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend others involved in the racket.
