Gurgaon Police Crack Down on WhatsApp Investment Scam
Gurgaon police have arrested three individuals for allegedly cheating people through fraudulent investment schemes. The accused lured victims into investing money using WhatsApp groups and fake trading applications.
How the Scam Operated
The investigation began after a victim filed a complaint on September 30, 2025. The complainant stated that he was added to WhatsApp groups where members posed as stock market experts. These fake experts convinced him to invest money through mobile applications that turned out to be completely fraudulent.
The victim suffered significant financial losses through this scheme. Police registered a case under relevant sections and launched a thorough investigation into the matter.
Arrests Made Across Multiple Locations
Police first apprehended Vishal and Dharmendra on January 10, 2025. Both men are residents of Khoda village in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The third accused, Aslam from Khijra village in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested the following day from Laxmi Nagar in Delhi.
All three suspects were produced before the court and taken into police custody for interrogation. Investigators obtained remand to question them further about their operations.
Money Trail and Criminal Connections
During the investigation, police discovered that approximately Rs 3 lakh from the cheated amount was transferred to the bank account of Ratik Ahmad. The registered mobile SIM card for this account was kept by accused Vishal, who circulated it for use in further fraudulent activities.
Vishal and Dharmendra admitted during interrogation that they worked for Aslam. They received a monthly salary of Rs 20,000 for their role in the scam.
International Links and Equipment Recovered
Police raided Aslam's rented accommodation in Laxmi Nagar, Delhi. During questioning, Aslam revealed that he transferred fraud money between bank accounts on instructions from a Chinese handler. He received a commission of 1 percent on each transferred amount.
Further verification showed that Dharmendra is already involved in three cyber fraud cases registered in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. One cyber fraud case is pending against Aslam in Noida.
During searches, police recovered a total of 22 mobile phones and 1 laptop from the possession of the accused. This equipment indicates the scale of their fraudulent operations.
Judicial Proceedings Continue
Vishal and Dharmendra were sent to judicial custody on January 13, 2025. Aslam followed them into custody on January 14, 2025. The investigation remains active as police work to identify other gang members and trace the complete money trail.
Gurgaon police continue their efforts to uncover all aspects of this sophisticated investment fraud scheme. They urge citizens to exercise caution when approached with investment opportunities through social media platforms.
