The suspects are accused of orchestrating a sophisticated scam that resulted in a local resident being defrauded of a substantial sum of Rs 4.49 lakh.

The fraudulent activity came to light when Omprakash, a resident of Garhi Brahmanan village in Sonipat, filed a formal complaint on October 30, 2025. According to the victim's account, the accused, identified as Akshat Srivastava and Sahil, initiated contact through a WhatsApp call. Employing a cunning ruse, one of the perpetrators impersonated Omprakash's nephew, fabricating a distressing narrative about urgently needing funds for his wife's medical treatment.
To lend credibility to their story and manipulate the victim's trust, the fraudsters shared a forged bank statement. This fabricated document falsely indicated that a transfer of Rs 16.15 lakh had been made into Omprakash's account, creating an illusion of financial security and reciprocity. Under this deceptive pretense, the victim was coerced into transferring Rs 4.49 lakh across multiple transactions to the scammers.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Acting swiftly on the complaint, a dedicated police team was assembled under the leadership of Inspector Basant Kumar. Leveraging advanced technical surveillance and digital forensic techniques, the investigators meticulously traced the digital footprints left by the accused. Their efforts culminated in the successful tracking and subsequent arrest of the two suspects from Barabanki district in Uttar Pradesh.
During the arrest operation, law enforcement officials seized two mobile phones from the possession of the accused, which are believed to have been instrumental in executing the scam.
