The government announced on Sunday that approximately 98% of LPG refill bookings are being made digitally, while 94% of deliveries are based on the delivery authentication code (DAC) system to maintain transparency and prevent the diversion of cooking gas.
Digital Transformation of LPG Booking
Officials from oil marketing companies stated that they continue to prioritize LPG supply to households, delivering over 50 lakh domestic cooking gas cylinders daily despite supply constraints due to the geopolitical situation. They noted that earlier, 71% of refills were booked digitally through mobile apps, IVRS calls, and SMS. This figure rose to nearly 80% in mid-March and has now reached 98%.
Delivery Authentication Code Implementation
Similarly, the use of DAC for deliveries increased from 53% in pre-crisis days to 72% in March and currently stands at 94%. The delivery authentication code is received on a consumer's registered mobile number, ensuring that the cylinder reaches the intended recipient.
This digital push has significantly improved transparency in the LPG distribution system, reducing the chances of diversion and ensuring that subsidized cooking gas reaches genuine beneficiaries. The government continues to monitor the situation closely to maintain uninterrupted supply to households.
