Andhra Pradesh to Introduce 24-Hour Vehicle Registration System
AP to Launch 24-Hour Vehicle Registration System

The Andhra Pradesh government is set to introduce a new vehicle registration system that promises approval within just 24 hours, significantly reducing the delays currently faced by vehicle owners. Under the proposed policy framework, transport officials must process and complete vehicle registrations within a strict 24-hour deadline. Failure to do so will result in the registration being deemed approved automatically.

Current Challenges and Proposed Solutions

Currently, delays in vehicle registration often inconvenience buyers, particularly in cities with high application volumes. The new system is expected to streamline backend verification processes and improve coordination between automobile dealers and transport offices. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has reportedly directed the transport department to ensure that registrations of new vehicles are completed without bureaucratic delays.

Transparency and Accountability

The initiative aims to bring greater transparency, accountability, and efficiency to transport services. Officials stated that the move is part of the state government's push towards technology-driven governance and time-bound public service delivery. The reform is expected to benefit lakhs of vehicle owners, auto dealers, and transport operators by eliminating unnecessary waiting periods and procedural hurdles.

A source in the transport department said, “The new policy, likely to be implemented across the state, will ensure that newly purchased vehicles are registered within 24 hours, irrespective of whether the purchase is made on a Sunday or a holiday. The transport department is preparing the necessary technical infrastructure and operational guidelines for the statewide rollout.”

Impact on Administrative Accountability

The proposed reform is also expected to enhance administrative accountability, as pending applications will no longer remain at the discretion of officials. This move is part of a broader effort to digitize and expedite public services in Andhra Pradesh.
