Contractors responsible for waste management in Bengaluru have been given a strict one-week deadline to address the city's garbage problems, failing which they will face blacklisting. The warning was issued during a review meeting chaired by Leader of the Opposition and Padmanabhanagar MLA R Ashoka at the Padmanabhanagar playground on Wednesday.
Review Meeting Highlights
During the meeting, Ashoka expressed strong dissatisfaction with the current state of garbage collection and disposal services. He emphasized that citizens have been suffering due to the inefficiency of contractors, and immediate action is necessary. The MLA warned that contractors who fail to meet the deadline will be blacklisted and replaced with more efficient agencies.
Key Directives Issued
- Contractors must ensure daily garbage collection from all wards without fail.
- Segregation of wet and dry waste at source must be strictly implemented.
- All waste transfer stations must be cleared of accumulated garbage within the week.
- Penalties will be imposed for any lapses in service.
Ashoka also directed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials to conduct regular inspections and submit daily reports on the progress. He warned that any negligence on the part of BBMP staff would also be dealt with seriously.
Public Grievances Addressed
Residents of Padmanabhanagar and surrounding areas had been complaining about overflowing bins and irregular waste collection for weeks. The issue had escalated to the point of public protests. Ashoka assured the public that the administration is committed to resolving the crisis and urged citizens to cooperate by following waste segregation norms.
Future Course of Action
If the situation does not improve within the stipulated time, the BBMP will initiate the process of blacklisting the defaulting contractors and inviting new tenders. The move is aimed at ensuring accountability and improving the city's sanitation standards.
