Chandigarh: Sanjay Arora, the chief engineer of the Chandigarh municipal corporation, conducted an inspection of the sewage treatment plant (STP) at Maloya on Saturday. The visit aimed to evaluate the plant's operational efficiency, treatment processes, and adherence to environmental compliance standards. He was accompanied by senior officers and engineers from the department.
Detailed Inspection of Key Units
During the inspection, Arora examined critical components of the STP, including the inlet works, aeration tanks, clarifiers, sludge handling systems, laboratories, and arrangements for treated water discharge. He expressed satisfaction with the overall functioning of the ISO-certified plant and commended the staff for maintaining the quality of treated effluent within the prescribed norms.
Review of AMRUT 2.0 Project
Following the STP inspection, Arora reviewed the progress of the tertiary treated water project being implemented under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0. This project includes the construction of an underground reservoir and associated infrastructure. He stressed the importance of timely completion and directed officials to expedite the work, noting that the project will promote water recycling, reduce dependence on potable water, and strengthen the city's sustainable water management efforts.
The successful implementation of this project is expected to significantly enhance water conservation in Chandigarh, setting an example for other cities. The treated water will be used for non-potable purposes, thereby preserving fresh water resources.
