Karnataka minister has directed the establishment of check points at the Kukke Subrahmanya temple to curb the use of single-use plastic. Speaking to reporters at Kukke Subrahmanya on Tuesday, the minister expressed alarm over the sight of plastic bottles, plates, and other waste scattered along the roadsides during his visit to the temple.
Minister's Concerns
The minister emphasized the urgent need to address the plastic waste problem, which he described as a growing environmental hazard. He noted that the temple attracts thousands of devotees daily, leading to significant waste generation. The check points will ensure that no single-use plastic items are brought into the temple premises.
Implementation Plan
Officials have been instructed to deploy personnel at all entry points to enforce the ban. The minister also called for awareness campaigns to educate devotees about the harmful effects of plastic pollution. Local authorities will work closely with temple management to ensure compliance.
The move is part of a broader state initiative to eliminate single-use plastics. Similar measures are being considered for other major temples and public places across Karnataka.
