Kerala Budget 2026-27 Unveils Major Investments for Kochi's Tech Future
In a significant announcement for Kerala's commercial capital, the state government has allocated substantial funds for key infrastructure and technology projects in Kochi. Cyber Valley Project Receives ₹30 Crore Boost
The budget earmarks ₹30 crore for the ambitious Cyber Valley project, which is set to be developed across 300 acres in Kochi Infopark Phase III. According to Minister Balagopal, this initiative aims to establish a dynamic hub dedicated to information technology, IT-based services, artificial intelligence, and other emerging technologies. Furthermore, ₹20 crore has been allocated for the Technology Innovation Zone in Kochi, designed to foster research and development in cutting-edge sectors. Mayor V K Minimol expressed disappointment, stating that aside from the Metro funding, Ernakulam district—which contributes the most to the state exchequer—has been largely overlooked. Similarly, Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden criticized the government for not giving Kochi due consideration, suggesting that more comprehensive support is needed to address local challenges.
On the other hand, the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Kochi, welcomed the budget as a progressive and people-centric document. ICCI Kochi President Rajkumar Gupta praised the government for strengthening welfare measures, supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups, and investing in infrastructure and green mobility.
