Mangaluru's popular tourist destination, Pilikula Nisargadhama, is set to become completely paperless with the introduction of a QR code-based electronic ticketing system. This new initiative aims to streamline entry processes, reduce waste, and enhance visitor convenience. The system will be officially inaugurated during the visit of Minister for Minor Irrigation and Science and Technology, NS Boseraju, to Pilikula on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.
How the E-Ticketing System Works
Visitors can now purchase tickets online through a dedicated portal or at the venue using digital payment methods. Upon payment, a unique QR code is generated and sent to the visitor's mobile device. At the entry gate, scanners read the QR code, allowing instant access without the need for paper tickets. This contactless system not only speeds up entry but also reduces the environmental footprint of the park.
Benefits for Visitors and Management
- Convenience: No more standing in long queues for ticket purchases; visitors can book tickets in advance from anywhere.
- Eco-friendly: Eliminates the use of paper, contributing to Pilikula's green initiatives.
- Efficiency: Real-time tracking of visitor numbers helps management optimize crowd control and resource allocation.
- Security: QR codes are unique and tamper-proof, reducing the risk of counterfeit tickets.
The e-ticketing system is part of a broader digital transformation at Pilikula, which includes plans for a mobile app offering virtual tours, event updates, and feedback mechanisms. Minister NS Boseraju praised the initiative, stating that it aligns with the government's vision of a Digital Karnataka.
Future Plans
Following the successful launch, the system may be extended to other parks and heritage sites in the region. The park management also intends to integrate the e-ticketing platform with local tourism services for seamless travel packages. With this move, Pilikula sets a benchmark for sustainable and tech-driven tourism in Karnataka.
The inauguration event on Wednesday will feature a live demonstration of the system, followed by a guided tour for the minister. Visitors are encouraged to use the new system from the launch date to experience hassle-free entry.
