The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) CEO Vivek Chandra Verma visited the UIDAI regional office in Lucknow on Friday. During his visit, he distributed Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE) certificates to representatives of seven companies registered for Aadhaar offline verification services.
Enhancing Secure Identity Verification
Verma emphasized that the OVSE service enables secure, seamless, and privacy-friendly identity verification without the need to share Aadhaar numbers. This approach ensures better data protection for citizens. He stated that more institutions are expected to adopt UIDAI's digital verification ecosystem to provide efficient citizen services.
Benefits of Offline Verification
The offline verification method allows entities to verify an individual's identity using a temporary, shareable code or a QR code, eliminating the need to store or transmit the actual Aadhaar number. This reduces the risk of data breaches and misuse. The OVSE certificates empower registered companies to offer these services legally and securely.
Future Adoption
Verma expressed confidence that the adoption of UIDAI's digital verification ecosystem would increase across sectors, including banking, telecom, and healthcare, leading to faster and more reliable identity verification for citizens. He encouraged more organizations to register for OVSE to leverage the benefits of secure offline verification.
The visit underscores UIDAI's commitment to enhancing data protection and promoting privacy-friendly authentication methods. The distribution of OVSE certificates marks a step forward in expanding the reach of Aadhaar-based services while safeguarding personal information.
