Vijayawada Municipal Corporation to Implement QR Code Digital Door Numbers for 2.4 Lakh Properties
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation to Implement QR Code Digital Door Numbers

Vijayawada: In a significant move towards digitizing urban governance and enhancing civic service delivery, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) is set to assign a unique digital identity to every property in the city through QR codes. This initiative aims to enable faster, more transparent, and efficient civic services. The system is expected to improve property identification, streamline municipal administration, and strengthen urban planning mechanisms.

Scope of the Project

Under this exercise, the civic body will change the existing door numbers of approximately 2.40 lakh households across three circles in the city. Each property will be assigned a unique QR-enabled digital identity, replacing or upgrading the conventional door numbering system. The QR code linked to each property will store a comprehensive digital profile, allowing municipal officials and citizens to instantly access information related to property tax assessments, water tax and other municipal taxes, ownership details, geo-tagged property information, municipal service records, and urban planning data.

Benefits for Residents

Officials highlight that the new digital door numbering system will offer several benefits to residents. These include faster verification of property records, reduced need for repeated documentation, improved transparency in tax assessments, easier grievance redressal, quicker access to civic services, and better identification for emergency and utility services. Additionally, citizens will be able to access certain property-related information directly by scanning the QR code, reducing dependence on physical visits to municipal offices.

Training and Implementation

Already, the civic body has conducted a special training program for staff from circles 1, 2, and 3 on the implementation of the QR code-based digital door numbering system proposed by the municipal administration department. Ward planning and regulation secretaries, ward amenities secretaries, ward administrative secretaries, and other concerned officials participated in the training program. Officials were trained on various aspects, including ULB boundary identification, road mapping, property data collection, parcel mapping, ERP data integration, and geo-tagging of properties. Guidance was also provided on generating unique QR codes for each property and maintaining digital data integrity for future use in urban development planning.

Official Statement

A VMC official stated, "The digital door number exercise is being taken up under the name of AP urban digital registry, and the exercise will commence shortly across the city."

This initiative marks a step forward in leveraging technology for efficient urban management, promising a more streamlined and transparent system for property-related services in Vijayawada.
