Amazon's Alexa Plus for Fire TV Finds Movie Scenes by Your Description
Alexa Plus on Fire TV Finds Scenes by Description

Amazon has introduced a clever new feature for Fire TV users in India that aims to solve a common movie-watching headache. The feature, called Alexa Plus, allows viewers to find specific scenes in films by simply describing what they remember, eliminating the need to fast-forward blindly or even recall the movie's title.

How Does Alexa Plus Work on Fire TV?

Instead of scrubbing through a timeline, users can now speak to their Fire TV remote. You describe a scene out loud using details like character actions, famous dialogues, locations, or actor names. For instance, you could ask for "the train scene in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" or "the proposal scene in Jab We Met." Alexa Plus then uses advanced technology to pinpoint and jump directly to that moment in the film on Prime Video.

The functionality is powered by a combination of Amazon's existing X-Ray technology, which already identifies on-screen actors and scene information, and sophisticated AI models. Amazon has confirmed that the system leverages its own Amazon Nova model as well as Anthropic's Claude AI to interpret natural language queries and match them to the correct film and timestamp.

Current Capabilities and Limitations

At its launch, Alexa Plus comes with some specific boundaries. The feature is exclusive to Fire TV devices and works only within the Prime Video app. It is compatible with thousands of movies that are included with a Prime membership, as well as titles users have rented or purchased.

A key requirement is that scenes must be pre-indexed. Amazon states the feature works with "tens of thousands of tagged scenes" using data from X-Ray, subtitles, and metadata. This means if a particular film or scene hasn't been processed yet, Alexa Plus might not locate it. Notably, TV shows are not supported at launch, though Amazon has indicated plans to add series and more scenes in the future.

A Solution for a Universal Problem

Alexa Plus, first teased during Amazon's September hardware event, is now rolling out to users. It doesn't overhaul the Fire TV experience but elegantly addresses a familiar frustration: vividly remembering a scene but forgetting where it occurs in a movie's runtime.

If Amazon successfully expands the library of indexed content to include more films and eventually TV series, a quick voice command could become the fastest way for Indian audiences to revisit their favourite cinematic moments on Prime Video.
