Foldable iPhone Launch Delayed to 2026, Supply Shortages May Last Until 2027
Foldable iPhone Launch Delayed, Shortages Expected Until 2027

Apple enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the tech giant's entry into the foldable smartphone market might need to brace for a longer wait and potential scarcity. According to a new analysis, the highly anticipated foldable iPhone could see its launch pushed back and then face significant supply shortages well into 2027.

Analyst Warns of Delays and Production Hurdles

In a detailed research note, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated that the development of the foldable iPhone is progressing slower than initially anticipated. While the product is still projected to be officially announced in the second half of 2026, its journey to consumers' hands may not be smooth.

Kuo highlights that the device, often referred to by the rumoured name iPhone Fold, is likely to encounter manufacturing challenges. "Due to early-stage yield and ramp-up challenges, smooth shipments may not occur until 2027," the analyst writes. This suggests that even after its unveiling, actually purchasing the phone could be difficult.

The core warning is clear: "With limited supply and expected strong demand, the foldable iPhone could be facing shortages until at least the end of 2026." This potential scarcity could extend into the following year, testing the patience of Apple's loyal customer base.

Expected Design and Feature Trade-Offs

Early leaks and reports paint a picture of a device that will diverge significantly from the current iPhone lineup to achieve its folding form factor. One of the most notable sacrifices rumoured is the omission of the proprietary Face ID facial recognition system. This move is apparently to accommodate a thinner hinge and folding mechanism.

In its place, Apple might integrate a 24-megapixel under-display selfie camera on the main inner screen. This technology would allow for a clean, uninterrupted display surface when the phone is unfolded. For use while closed, a second 24MP camera is expected on the outer cover display, facilitating selfies and video calls without needing to open the device.

The rear camera system is also speculated to be a simplified setup compared to current Pro models. It may feature a dual-lens arrangement with two 48MP sensors—one standard and one ultrawide—but reportedly without a telephoto lens. This appears to be a deliberate design compromise to maintain the sleek, slim profile essential for a foldable phone. The focus seems to be squarely on pioneering a new form factor and display technology rather than competing on pure camera specs.

Premium Price Tag for a Premium Experience

Owning this piece of cutting-edge Apple technology will likely come at a steep cost. Recent analyst estimates suggest the foldable iPhone could carry a price tag of approximately $2,399 (roughly ₹2 lakhs, subject to conversion and Indian taxes). This figure is even higher than earlier speculation, which had already positioned the device above the $2,000 mark, cementing its status as an ultra-premium, niche product within Apple's portfolio.

The combined factors of a delayed launch, protracted supply constraints, and a very high price point indicate that Apple is taking a cautious, perfectionist approach to its first foldable. The company appears willing to risk short-term scarcity to ensure the product meets its high standards for design and user experience, aiming to avoid the pitfalls that have affected some early foldables in the market.
