Sony's Smartphone-Sized Camera System for Filmmakers

Sony India Introduces Game-Changing Compact Camera System

Sony has just launched an exciting new product for filmmakers. The company revealed the VENICE Extension System Mini today. This compact camera accessory delivers the power of Sony's flagship VENICE 2 8K sensor in a remarkably small package.

Revolutionary Size for Creative Freedom

The new extension system measures just 63.9mm by 103.2mm by 60.2mm. That makes it approximately 70% smaller than the previous VENICE Extension System 2. The compact dimensions allow filmmakers to work in tight spaces where traditional cinema cameras cannot fit.

Despite its small size, the system maintains full image quality. It uses the same 8.6K full-frame sensor found in the larger VENICE 2 camera. This means creators get identical image performance in a much more portable form.

Perfect for Advanced Production Workflows

The real innovation becomes apparent when using multiple units together. When you mount two systems side by side, they maintain a precise 64mm gap between sensors. This matches the exact distance between human eyes, making the system ideal for stereoscopic imaging.

Filmmakers can create immersive spatial content and VR productions with this precise alignment. The system includes nine drop-in ND filters for light control. It also features a flexible 4.5-meter cable that detaches when needed, simplifying rigging in challenging locations.

Industry Impact and Availability

Mukesh Srivastava, Head of Imaging Business at Sony India, explained the significance of this launch. "We are enabling creators to capture cinematic imagery in environments that were previously challenging or impossible," he stated. Srivastava emphasized how the ultra-compact form factor opens new creative possibilities.

The VENICE series has already powered major Hollywood productions. Films like Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water have utilized this technology. The upcoming Avatar: Fire & Ash will also feature VENICE camera systems.

The VENICE Extension System Mini becomes available starting today. Sony is offering an optional 12-meter cable for shoots requiring greater distance between camera components. Pricing details are available upon direct request from the company.

This launch represents a significant advancement for the filmmaking community. Indian creators now have access to professional-grade technology in a portable format. The system promises to transform how filmmakers approach challenging shooting scenarios across the country.
