CUH Gets Rs 40 Lakh Grant for Mustard Oil Research

The Central University of Haryana (CUH) has been awarded a research grant of Rs 40 lakh by the Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology (HSCSIT). The funding will support a project aimed at enhancing the quality of mustard oil through advanced gene-editing techniques.

Multidisciplinary Research Team

The project will be led by Dr Humira Sonah and Prof Rupesh Deshmukh from the Department of Biotechnology. They will be joined by Prof Pawan Kumar Maurya from the Department of Biochemistry and Dr Mona Sharma from the Department of Environmental Science. This multidisciplinary team brings together expertise in biotechnology, biochemistry, and environmental science.

CRISPR Gene-Editing Technology

The research will employ CRISPR gene-editing technology to improve the nutritional profile and commercial value of mustard oil. Importantly, the project aims to maintain the crop's resilience to environmental stresses such as drought and soil salinity.
