Former councillor dies by suicide after builders fail to pay commission
Ex-councillor dies by suicide over unpaid commission

A 56-year-old former councillor and property dealer, Jagga Singh, allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his home in Barnala early Monday. In a suicide note recovered by police, Jagga Singh named two builders, accusing them of failing to pay his commission for facilitating the purchase of a colony.

Police Action

Barnala SSP Sarfaraz Alam said a case has been registered against Ashwani Kumar and Vinod Kumar, partners in Dhuri-based Cat Builders, under charges of abetment to suicide and common intention. Police are conducting raids to arrest the accused.

Family's Stand

Jagga Singh's family announced they would not cremate the body until strict action was taken against those named in the note. According to the deceased's brother, Malkit Singh, the builders had approached Jagga expressing interest in purchasing a Barnala colony named Anil Enclave. Jagga successfully brokered the deal, and the sale deed was registered a long time ago. However, the builders repeatedly delayed paying his commission, Malkit alleged, adding this left Jagga depressed, driving him to end his life.
