UPSIFS Quantum Workshop Unites Experts on Future Tech and Security
The Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Sciences (UPSIFS) orchestrated a comprehensive one-day workshop focused on "Quantum Computing" at its Lucknow campus this Wednesday. This significant event successfully convened a diverse assembly of policymakers, leading scientists, prominent industry experts, and enthusiastic students, creating a dynamic forum for knowledge exchange and strategic discussion.
Quantum Computing: A New Technological Era Dawns
During the proceedings, UPSIFS founding director G K Goswami articulated a powerful vision, describing quantum computing as the definitive commencement of a "new technological era." He formally announced that the institute has embarked on its dedicated "quantum journey," signaling a commitment to forefront research and education in this transformative field. The workshop extensively explored the expanding influence of quantum technologies across critical sectors, with particular emphasis on cybersecurity, national defence, financial systems, and advanced scientific research.
National Security and Indigenous Innovation Take Center Stage
Delivering the keynote address, Ajai Chowdhry, chairman of the National Quantum Mission (NQM), delivered a compelling call for technological self-reliance. He issued a stark warning about the nature of future conflicts, asserting they will be predominantly driven by advancements in artificial intelligence, semiconductor chips, and drone technology. Chowdhry strongly urged India to accelerate efforts in reducing dependency on foreign technological systems to safeguard national sovereignty.
He further elaborated on the current transformative impact of quantum computing, highlighting its revolutionary applications in the pharmaceutical industry for drastically accelerating drug discovery processes and in the banking sector for providing unprecedented levels of data security and encryption.
Uttar Pradesh's Ambitious Deep-Tech Roadmap Unveiled
Additional chief secretary for IT & Electronics, Alok Kumar, provided detailed insights into Uttar Pradesh's strategic deep-tech development plan under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The ambitious roadmap includes several key initiatives:
- Establishment of a major Deep Tech Hub in the Noida-NCR region.
- Allocation of startup funding ranging between Rs 30 to 40 crore to foster innovation.
- Substantial budgetary commitments, including Rs 225 crore dedicated to artificial intelligence projects and Rs 100 crore earmarked for research in emerging technologies.
Kumar also announced a bold national objective: India aims to achieve a significant milestone of operationalizing a 1,000-qubit quantum computing system within the next two to three years.
Industry Calls for Quantum Literacy and Cybersecurity
The workshop featured critical contributions from domain experts. Professor Sandeep Shukla emphasized the urgent need for developing quantum-safe cybersecurity protocols to protect infrastructure against next-generation threats. From the corporate sector, Rajan Luthra of Reliance Industries Limited advocated for a significant increase in "quantum literacy" among professionals and the public to build a knowledgeable workforce capable of leveraging this technology.
A concluding panel discussion served as a platform to showcase the latest innovation trends and practical deep-tech solutions, reinforcing the collaborative spirit between academia, industry, and government essential for India's quantum future.
