Jio Hits 1 Crore Users in Kolkata, 500 Million Nationally in 2025
Jio Reaches 1 Crore Milestone in Kolkata, 500M Nationwide

Reliance Jio has achieved a significant milestone in India's eastern metropolis, solidifying its dominance in the telecom sector with remarkable growth figures for the current year.

Kolkata Crosses the 1 Crore User Mark

In a major development for the Kolkata telecom circle, Jio added a substantial 1.8 lakh new customers in the first ten months of the year. This surge in subscriptions has propelled the company past the prestigious 1-crore customer milestone in the city. This growth underscores the strong adoption of Jio's services in one of India's key urban markets.

National Dominance and 5G Data Surge

The success in Kolkata mirrors a larger national trend. On the all-India front, Jio's subscriber base soared past the 500 million (50 crore) mark in September 2025. This achievement cements its position as the world's largest mobile data network by traffic volume, as confirmed by an official company statement.

A pivotal revelation from the data is the rapid uptake of 5G services. The company reported that 5G services now account for approximately 50% of the total wireless data traffic on its network. This indicates a swift transition of users to next-generation connectivity.

Record Traffic and AirFiber's Global Lead

The sheer volume of data consumed on the Jio network is staggering. For the nine-month period from January to September 2025, the total data traffic reached 162 exabytes, equivalent to 162 billion gigabytes. Furthermore, the average data consumption per user per month saw a notable increase of 6.4 GB.

Another feather in Jio's cap is the performance of its fixed wireless access service. The company claimed that Jio AirFiber, its 5G UBR-based service, emerged as the global leader by subscriber count in July 2025, surpassing international players like T-Mobile. This highlights the successful expansion of Jio's offerings beyond mobile into home broadband.

These combined metrics from Kolkata and the national stage paint a picture of a telecom giant accelerating its growth, driven by aggressive 5G adoption and expanding service portfolios.
