Ola Electric Announces Major Price Reduction for Roadster X+ Electric Motorcycle
In a significant move to boost accessibility, Ola Electric has implemented a sharp price cut for its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+ 9.1 kWh. The model is now priced at Rs 1,29,999, down from Rs 1,89,999, marking a substantial reduction of Rs 60,000. This price drop is attributed to the company's efforts in scaling up production of its indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell, which is expected to enhance manufacturing efficiency and reduce costs.
Shift to Limited Purchase Windows
However, there is a notable change in the sales strategy. Ola Electric is moving away from regular open sales to a limited purchase window model. This means the Roadster X+ will be available only during specific time slots and in restricted quantities, aimed at managing demand and production flow. The first such window is scheduled for April 3, between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, with more windows to be announced based on production availability. This approach could create a sense of urgency among buyers and help the company optimize its supply chain.
Performance and Features of the Roadster X+
The Roadster X+ 9.1 kWh is currently Ola Electric's highest-performance electric motorcycle, boasting an impressive range of up to 500 km on a single charge. Key specifications include:
- A top speed of 125 kmph and acceleration from 0 to 40 kmph in just 2.7 seconds.
- Three riding modes: Sport, Normal, and Eco, along with a 4.3-inch colour LCD display for enhanced user interface.
- Safety features such as a front disc and rear drum setup with single-channel ABS, ensuring reliable braking performance.
- Advanced connectivity options, including OTA updates, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, cruise control, reverse mode, and app-based analytics for a smart riding experience.
The 9.1 kWh variant supports a 1000W portable charger, taking approximately 8.5 hours to charge from 0 to 80 per cent, making it convenient for daily use.
Market Impact and Growth Trends
This price reduction comes at a time when Ola Electric is experiencing robust growth in the electric vehicle market. In March, the company reported over 150 per cent month-on-month growth in registrations, reaching 10,117 units. Daily orders also crossed 1,000 units in the last week of the month, indicating strong consumer interest and a positive market response to its offerings. The strategic price cut and limited sales model could further drive demand, positioning Ola Electric as a competitive player in the evolving EV landscape.
As the automotive sector continues to innovate, such moves highlight the dynamic nature of electric mobility and the efforts by companies like Ola Electric to make sustainable transportation more affordable and accessible to a wider audience.
