NAMAKKAL: The Molasi police in Namakkal district have arrested two men on charges of attempting to sexually assault a 10-year-old girl. The incident occurred on Monday evening when the Class V girl was returning home from school.
According to police, two men on a motorcycle stopped the girl and engaged her in conversation. “They offered her chocolates and took her to an isolated area, where they tried to sexually assault her. The girl managed to escape from the duo and informed her parents about the incident,” said an officer at the Molasi police station.
Based on a complaint filed by the girl’s parents, the Molasi police registered a case, conducted inquiries, and arrested the suspects on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as V Prabhakaran, 30, and M Sakthivel, 31, both labourers from Suriampalayam near Tiruchengode.
They have been booked under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and remanded in judicial custody.
The swift action by the police led to the arrest of the duo within 24 hours of the incident. The girl is currently safe and receiving necessary support.
This case highlights the importance of vigilance in ensuring child safety. Authorities urge parents to educate their children about potential dangers and encourage them to report any suspicious behavior immediately.
