OnePlus has officially unveiled its latest performance-focused smartphone, the OnePlus 15R, in the Indian market. The device marks a significant leap by being the first to feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, which OnePlus claims was co-developed in partnership with the chipmaker.
Powerhouse Performance and Cooling
At the heart of the OnePlus 15R lies the groundbreaking Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. OnePlus highlights substantial generational improvements, including a 36% faster CPU, an 11% more powerful GPU, and a staggering 46% boost in AI processing capabilities compared to its predecessor.
The company's proprietary CPU Scheduler intelligently allocates system resources, prioritizing demanding applications during gameplay for a smoother experience. To manage the heat generated by such powerful hardware, OnePlus has implemented a sophisticated three-layer cooling system. This combines aerogel under the display, a large 5,704mm² vapor chamber, and graphite across the back panel.
Gamers will appreciate the gyroscope capable of detecting motion at 4,000 degrees per second for precise control and a Touch Response Chip with a 3,200Hz sampling rate for ultra-responsive inputs. A dedicated Wi-Fi chip is also onboard to ensure stable connectivity.
Display, Battery, and Camera Capabilities
The OnePlus 15R sports a large 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a sharp 1.5K resolution. Its standout feature is the 165Hz refresh rate, which refreshes the screen 165 times per second in supported games to reduce motion blur. For daily use, it dynamically adjusts between 60Hz and 165Hz to save battery. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and features an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.
Powering the device is a massive 7,400mAh battery, the largest ever in a OnePlus phone, which supports 80W fast charging. On the software front, it runs OxygenOS 16 based on Android 16, integrated with Google's Gemini AI via the Plus Mind feature. OnePlus promises four years of Android updates and six years of security patches.
For photography, the phone boasts a triple-camera setup led by a 50-megapixel Sony IMX906 main sensor with optical image stabilization. It is accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultrawide lens and a 32-megapixel front camera. OnePlus's DetailMax Engine powers features like Ultra Clear Mode for daytime shots, Clear Burst for action at 10 frames per second, and the Clear Night Engine for low-light photography. It can record video at 4K resolution and 120 frames per second.
Design, Durability, and India-Exclusive Color
The design of the 15R borrows elements from the flagship OnePlus 15, featuring a camera module set at a 45-degree angle from the corner. It has a flat aluminum frame with strategically placed antennas for better signal reception during gaming sessions.
The phone comes in three color variants: Charcoal Black and Mint Breeze with glass backs, and an India-exclusive Electric Violet made from fibreglass. All models boast impressive durability with IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, making them resistant to high-temperature water jets and submersion in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.
