Samsung Expands Galaxy A Series with New 5G and AI-Enhanced Smartphones in India
Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy A37 5G and the Galaxy A57 smartphones in the Indian market. These new additions reinforce the company's strategy of positioning the Galaxy A series as a compelling choice for consumers seeking a balanced combination of camera capabilities, everyday functionality, advanced AI features, and robust durability. The launch underscores Samsung's commitment to catering to the evolving needs of mid-range smartphone users.
Galaxy A37 5G: Initial Impressions and Pricing
The Galaxy A37 5G is available starting at Rs 41,999, offering a refined version of Samsung's successful formula with improvements in design, camera processing, and extended software support. We had the opportunity to test the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, priced at Rs 47,499, in the Awesome Lavender colour. Our early usage involved daily activities such as making calls, browsing the web, streaming content, and engaging in casual gaming, providing a preliminary overview of the device's performance.
Design and Display Features
The Galaxy A37 5G adheres to Samsung's clean and minimalist design philosophy. The phone feels sturdy in hand, thanks to Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection on both the front and back, enhancing its durability. Despite the glass construction, the weight distribution is well-balanced, ensuring comfort during prolonged use.
Samsung has incorporated an IP68 rating, offering protection against dust and water, which boosts the device's reliability for everyday scenarios. The display features a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering smooth scrolling and animations in early testing. With Vision Booster support and a peak brightness of up to 1900 nits, the screen remains readable under direct sunlight. Further evaluation of colour accuracy and brightness consistency will be conducted in the full review.
Performance and Software Capabilities
Powered by the Exynos 1480 chipset, paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, the Galaxy A37 5G handles routine tasks like app switching, web browsing, and video streaming without noticeable slowdowns. Light gaming sessions also demonstrated stable performance without significant frame drops, indicating suitability for casual gaming despite not being marketed as a gaming-focused device.
On the software front, the phone runs One UI 8.5, providing a familiar and user-friendly interface. Samsung has integrated AI-powered features such as Bixby, Gemini integration, and tools like Object Eraser. In brief testing, the Object Eraser functioned quickly and efficiently, with the added practicality of offline usability. Samsung promises six years of Android OS upgrades and security updates, enhancing the long-term value of the device.
Camera System and AI Enhancements
The Galaxy A37 5G is equipped with a 50MP main camera featuring optical image stabilisation, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP macro lens, along with a 12MP front camera for selfies. Initial testing revealed that the primary camera captures images with balanced colours and adequate detail in daylight conditions, with OIS aiding stability during video recording. The ultra-wide camera is functional, though it shows a noticeable reduction in detail compared to the main sensor.
Samsung's AI features, including Best Face and Object Eraser, offer additional editing flexibility. The Best Face feature proves particularly useful for group photographs. Low-light performance appears improved, but a more comprehensive assessment will be provided in the full review.
Battery Life and Charging
The device houses a 5000mAh battery with support for 45W charging. During our short usage period, the phone comfortably lasted a full day with mixed activities such as streaming, browsing, and calls. Charging speeds align with typical expectations for this segment, being adequate though not the fastest available. Long-term battery performance and charging efficiency will be examined in greater detail in the complete review.
Overall Assessment
Based on our initial experience, the Samsung Galaxy A37 5G emerges as a well-rounded mid-range option. It delivers a durable build, a smooth display, reliable day-to-day performance, and a camera system that performs effectively in good lighting. The inclusion of AI features and long-term software support strengthens its overall appeal. While the performance and cameras are consistent rather than exceptional, the phone appears practical for users prioritizing reliability and everyday usability. A more definitive evaluation of the device's value will be presented in our detailed review after extended testing.
