Odisha's IG Drones Rebrands as IG Defence, Onboards Top Military Brass
IG Drones Evolves into Full-Spectrum Defence Tech Firm

In a significant strategic shift, Bhubaneswar's deep-tech pioneer, IG Drones, has officially announced its evolution into IG Defence. This move marks the company's natural progression from a drone-centric organisation to a comprehensive, full-spectrum defence technology enterprise.

From Drones to Sovereign Defence Systems

The transition is driven by a clear and serious mission: to develop sovereign, reliable, and battle-ready defence systems for India's future security needs. To solidify this ambitious vision and ensure robust functioning, the company has inducted several senior Indian military leaders into its top leadership ranks.

Lt. General Anil Kumar Samantara, with over four decades of leadership experience and a history of spearheading major indigenous procurement reforms, is a key addition. The founders stated that his insights will be central to shaping IG Defence's land systems and mission-critical platforms.

Building a Future-Ready Command Structure

The leadership team is further strengthened by Lt. General Anil Chait, former chief of the Integrated Defence Staff, and Air Commodore Rajendra N. Gaekwad. Their expertise is deemed crucial for aligning the company's trajectory with the future structure of India's defence commands.

Air Commodore Gaekwad's specific experience in weapons induction, aerospace modernisation, and future capability development is expected to directly guide IG Defence's programmes in aviation and autonomous systems.

A Vision for Autonomous and Integrated Warfare

Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya, founder and chief executive of IG Defence, emphasised that India is entering an era where conflicts will be defined by intelligence, autonomy, and cross-domain integration. “Our focus is to build dependable, world-class defence systems that are designed and manufactured in India, thereby reducing long-term dependency,” he stated.

He added that the guidance from the newly onboarded military leaders provides the company with essential clarity, discipline, and strategic direction for the future.

The founders revealed that IG Defence will now expand its portfolio well beyond aerial platforms. Its new and broadened work spectrum will include:

  • Next-generation combat and transport aircraft technologies.
  • Tactical interceptor systems.
  • Autonomous naval surface platforms.

Rooted firmly in the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), IG Defence's expanded role is a notable development in the country's defence sector. The company has a proven track record, having developed drones capable of operating in difficult terrain and playing a significant role in India's Operation Sindoor.
