A poultry farm owner in Sultanpur district has lodged a complaint alleging that 140 chickens died due to high-decibel DJ music played during a wedding procession that passed near his farm. The unusual incident has raised concerns over noise pollution and its impact on livestock.
Incident Details
The event took place on the night of April 25, 2026, in Dariyapur village under the Baldirai police station limits. A wedding procession for the daughter of local resident Babban Vishwakarma had arrived from Ram Bhadra Purva in the Kudwar area. The procession featured a DJ system playing music at extremely high volume.
Complainant Sabir Ali, owner of a poultry farm located along the procession route, stated that around 9:30 pm, the procession passed directly in front of his farm. He alleged that the loud and intense sound from the DJ system caused panic among the birds.
Complaint and FIR
In his complaint, Sabir Ali said, "The noise was so intense that the chickens got frightened and died." He attributed the entire loss to the excessive sound levels. Based on the complaint, Baldirai police have registered an FIR against the DJ operator, identified as Kavi Yadav, son of Lal Bahadur Yadav, a resident of Parsipur in Kudwar. The charges include public nuisance and mischief by killing poisoning. Police confirmed that the case was registered on Tuesday night and an investigation is underway.
Investigation and Expert Views
Officials are examining whether the DJ system violated prescribed sound limits and are reconstructing the sequence of events to determine the exact cause of the deaths. Experts note that high-intensity sound waves can induce acute stress in birds and animals, potentially leading to shock or cardiac arrest in extreme cases.
Reactions and Debate
No immediate response has been received from the accused DJ operator or the family hosting the wedding procession. The incident has sparked debate over regulation of loud music at public events, particularly in rural areas where such activities may impact nearby livelihoods dependent on livestock. Local residents have expressed concern over the lack of enforcement of noise pollution rules.
Authorities are expected to take further action based on the investigation findings. The case highlights the need for stricter adherence to noise norms to protect both human and animal welfare.
