A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Bokaro has sentenced a 21-year-old man, Dhananjay Singh, to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to rape a 16-year-old girl earlier this year. The verdict was delivered by Additional District Judge (ADJ-III) Devesh Kumar Tripathi, who found the accused guilty under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act.
Incident Details
According to Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Ravishankar Chaudhary, the incident occurred on September 27, 2025. The victim's mother filed a First Information Report (FIR) stating that the accused entered her house under the pretext of asking for water while both parents were away at work. Once inside, he lured the girl to an under-construction room at the rear of the house, where he pinned her down and attempted to rape her.
Intervention by Sister
The girl's screams alerted her elder sister, who was on the terrace at the time. The sister rushed to the scene, causing the accused to flee. Following an investigation, Singh was arrested and subsequently tried in court.
SPP Chaudhary emphasized the significance of the verdict, stating that it sends a strong message against crimes targeting minors. The court also imposed a fine on the convict, with provisions for compensation to the victim under the POCSO Act.
