Cloudburst Causes Damage in Rampur, No Casualties

A cloudburst in Narain village under Rampur Tehsil in Shimla district triggered a flash flood on Sunday night, damaging two cremation grounds, one footbridge, and an under-construction ground. Officials from the district administration confirmed that no loss of life was reported. Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rampur Harsh Amrender Singh described the cloudburst as minor, stating that no major loss occurred and restoration work is underway.

Retaining Wall Collapse in Shimla

In Shimla, a portion of a British-era retaining wall near The Christ Church collapsed on Monday morning, causing panic. Barricades were immediately installed, and the damaged section was covered with a tarpaulin. Additionally, a tree fell on several vehicles in Chamiana village near Shimla, but officials removed the tree promptly.

Orange and Yellow Alerts for July 7

The State Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for Shimla, Kangra, Solan, and Mandi districts, predicting very heavy to heavy rain in isolated areas on July 7. A yellow alert has been issued for Bilaspur and Sirmour districts, indicating heavy to moderate rain. Continuous rainfall is expected across the state until July 12, with maximum temperatures likely to drop by 2°C to 4°C.

In the past 24 hours, Jogindernagar in Mandi district recorded the highest rainfall at 110 mm. Other notable rainfall totals include Kangra 74.8 mm, Palampur 35.4 mm, Rohru 30 mm, Dharamshala 27.2 mm, Narkanda 13.5 mm, Manali 13 mm, and Shimla 4 mm. Minimum temperatures dropped by 2°C to 5°C, ranging between 11°C and 27°C, while maximum temperatures fell by 2°C to 3°C, ranging from 19°C to 32°C. The highest maximum temperature was 32.6°C in Neri village (Hamirpur), and the lowest minimum was 11.1°C in Kukumseri (Lahaul and Spiti).
