Hazaribag Tourism Secretary Assesses Megalithic Site

Hazaribag: Tourism secretary Mukesh Kumar visited the megalithic site at Pakri Barwadih in Barkagaon block of the district on Wednesday. The visit, officials said, was to assess the site’s tourist potential.

Deputy commissioner Hemant Sati accompanied Kumar during his visit. Megalith explorer Subhashis Das, who was also present, explained to Kumar in detail about the site and its importance. Officials said the visit came following the directives of chief minister Hemant Soren.

“The state government is serious about promoting tourism at the Pakri Barwadih megalithic site, which is historically significant,” Kumar said. He further said the state government will work towards getting the site included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and develop it as a major tourist destination at national and international levels to attract visitors from across the country and abroad.

Among those present on the occasion were deputy development commissioner Riya Singh, municipal commissioner Om Prakash Gupta, tourism director Asif Ekram, JTDC managing director Prem Ranjan, Sadar SDO Aditya Pandey, district planning officer Pankaj Kumar Tiwari and others.

The site holds immense archaeological value and is believed to date back to prehistoric times. The visit by senior officials underscores the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting such heritage sites. With proper infrastructure and global recognition through UNESCO, the site could become a key attraction for history enthusiasts and tourists alike.
