Himachal CM Launches Chinar Plantation Drive on World Environment Day

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched the first phase of the Chinar plantation drive in Shimla on Thursday. He urged the youth to take the lead in protecting and preserving the environment and to actively contribute towards building a greener and more sustainable future.

Significance of the Chinar Tree

Known for its majestic appearance, dense shade, and ecological significance, the Chinar tree is well suited to Shimla's climatic conditions. The Chief Minister emphasized that the younger generation has a pivotal role to play in environmental conservation.

Events and Activities

During the World Environment Day celebrations, Sukhu presented saplings to students of Government Senior Secondary School Portmore and the 'Children of the State'. He also released four publications related to forestry, environmental management, and ecotourism. Among these was a Coffee Table Book on 75 Ecotourism Sites of Himachal Pradesh, which showcases the state's prominent ecotourism destinations.

The Chief Minister stated that these publications would serve as valuable resources for forest officials and staff, researchers, policymakers, and all those interested in environmental conservation.
