The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dry weather across Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh for the next five days, accompanied by a gradual rise in daytime temperatures. The region may also experience heatwave conditions at isolated places from June 8 to June 11.
Weather Forecast Details
According to Surender Paul, Director of the IMD Chandigarh centre, dry weather and rising temperatures are expected from June 6 to June 10. Around June 11, western disturbances are likely to affect the region, bringing thunderstorm activity from June 11 onwards.
Temperature Rise and Heatwave Alert
The maximum temperature is expected to rise by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next five days. A heatwave is likely at isolated places from June 8 to June 11 in Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh. In the plains, a heatwave is defined as a departure from normal temperature of 4.5 to 6.4 degrees Celsius or an actual maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius or more.
Health Advisory
The weather department has issued an alert regarding high temperatures and an increased risk of heat-related illness symptoms for individuals exposed to the sun for prolonged periods or engaged in heavy work. Vulnerable populations, including infants, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases, face a high health concern. It is advised to avoid heat exposure and stay hydrated.
Relief from Heat
According to IMD predictions, thunderstorms and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely at isolated places in the region on June 11 and June 12 due to western disturbances, which may provide relief from the heat.
