The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Kerala around May 26, bringing much-needed relief from the summer heat. Alongside this prediction, the IMD has issued rain alerts for several districts in the state as heavy downpours continue to lash various regions.
Rain Alerts Issued
An 'orange alert' has been declared for two districts, indicating the likelihood of very heavy rainfall, while a 'yellow alert' has been issued for 10 districts, warning of heavy rainfall. These alerts are in effect for the day, as per the latest IMD bulletin.
Impact on Daily Life
The rains have already caused disruptions in several parts of Kerala, with waterlogging reported in low-lying areas. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the heavy downpours. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea due to rough conditions.
The monsoon onset is a critical event for Kerala, as it marks the beginning of the rainy season for the entire country. The IMD's early forecast allows farmers and disaster management teams to prepare adequately.
Residents are urged to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities. The IMD will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely updates.
