A land subsidence incident in the Godhar area of Kusunda, under the Kenduadih police station limits in Dhanbad, triggered panic late Monday night as three houses were damaged, forcing families to flee their homes.
Incident Details
At approximately 4 pm, the ground near Hawa Chaanak, behind the Godhar sub-station, caved in with a loud explosion, creating a large crater. Soon after, cracks appeared in at least three nearby houses, causing chaos in the locality. The area is home to more than 250 families.
Eyewitness Accounts
Residents reported hearing a deafening noise before the ground beneath their feet began sinking rapidly. The situation became more alarming when a poisonous gas leak was reportedly observed from the affected spot. Frightened families rushed out of their homes and began shifting their belongings to safer locations.
Authorities' Response
Pramod Pandey, the officer-in-charge of Kenduadih police station, inspected the area. However, villagers alleged that neither district administration officials nor the management of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) arrived immediately after the incident.
Demands from Locals
Local resident Shivanandan Paswan stated, "BCCL should take responsibility for rehabilitation and employment." As of late Monday, BCCL had not commented on the incident.
The subsidence has raised concerns about the safety of residents living near coal mining areas, with calls for immediate action from authorities to prevent further damage and ensure the well-being of affected families.
