A landslide on Cart Road near The Lift in Shimla completely blocked vehicular traffic for several hours on Sunday, July 12, 2026. The incident occurred near the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) headquarters when debris and a tree fell onto the road. No loss of life was reported.

Immediate Response and Road Clearance

Teams from the district administration, police, and other departments arrived at the scene shortly after receiving information. Machinery was deployed to clear the debris and the tree. After a few hours of work, the road was reopened to traffic. As a precaution, the district administration also closed the road connecting Cart Road to Sabzi Mandi.

Weather Forecast: Rain to Continue

The State Meteorological Centre has predicted light to moderate rainfall across Himachal Pradesh until July 18. However, no weather warning has been issued. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain normal, while maximum temperatures may rise by 2°C to 6°C in the coming days.

On Sunday, light to moderate rain was recorded in most parts of the state. Jogindernagar in Mandi district received the highest rainfall at 60 mm. Other notable rainfall amounts include Manali (45 mm), Shimla (19 mm), Una (3 mm), and Kalpa (2.4 mm).

Temperature Trends

Over the past 24 hours, minimum and maximum temperatures remained normal across the state. Minimum temperatures ranged between 10°C and 26°C, while maximum temperatures ranged between 21°C and 33°C.

In Shimla, the maximum temperature was 23.5°C. Other recorded maximum temperatures: Dharamshala 29°C, Manali 24.8°C, Solan 28°C, Kangra 31°C, Mandi 32.6°C, Kufri 21.4°C, Keylong 21.9°C, Una 30°C, Kalpa 21.6°C, Nahan 30.3°C, and Chamba 28.5°C.

The highest maximum temperature in the state was 33.1°C in Sundernagar, Mandi district. The lowest minimum temperature was 10.1°C in Kukumseri, Lahaul and Spiti district.
